Argentina tonight take on Peru at Lima's Estadio Nacional on Matchday 4 of the qualifying campaign for the Qatar World Cup. The Albiceleste are so far unbeaten in the qualifiers.

 

Leo Messi has taken to his social media channels to send a message of recognition to Javier Mascherano and Fernando Gago: "Two people that I experienced and shared enjoyable times with have retired from the game and I want to take the opportunity to send them a message: Dear Fer, I hope that everything works out really well for you. We've known each other since we were 17... It was a pleasure to share the dressing room for the national team and play against you. I wish you all the best and hope that you continue to accomplish your dreams. And what can I say about Masche? So many years together, seeing each other every day and sharing so many things... We enjoyed some really happy times on the pitch and some tough ones too, both with Argentina and Barcelona. We've missed you ever since you left. I wish you and your family all the best now and always!"

 

On 16 November 2003, Leo Messi made his debut for the Barcelona first team against Porto in the inauguration of the Estadio do Dragão. Leo was 16 years old at that time and had netted 11 goals in 10 games for Barcelona B. Since making his debut, he has gone on to etch his name in the club's history books.

 

Argentina played out a 1-1 draw on Matchday 3 of the Qatar World Cup qualifiers. Leo Messi, who played the full 90 minutes, made it 2-1, only for the VAR to rule the effort out following a foul by a teammate in the build-up. Argentina's next game is against Peru.

 

Leo Messi will once again wear the captain's armband for Argentina when they host Paraguay in the Qatar World Cup qualifier against Paraguay at La Bombonera.
