Leo took part in the farewell match in honour of his former national-team team-mate Maxi Rodríguez at Rosario's Estadio Coloso Marcelo Bielsa between Newell's Old Boys and Argentina. Leo, who turned 36 on Saturday, starred after notching three goals and displaying fine on-field chemistry with Maxi. "I want to thank Leo for coming on his birthday. I also thank all of his family. He's amazing. It's nice to have friends like them in life," commented Maxi at the end of the evening.

Today, 16 June, marks the 17th anniversary of Leo's first-ever World Cup goal. His maiden strike came on 16 June 16 2006, when the Argentinian, aged just 18 years and 357 days, scored the sixth goal in Argentina's win over Serbia in the World Cup in Germany. That effort saw Leo become the youngest footballer to find the net in the greatest tournament in world football.

Argentina ran out 2-0 winners over Australia in the sides' friendly in Beijing on Thursday. Leo opened the scoring with just 79 seconds of the clock to claim the earliest goal of his career. His second-fastest goal was clocked at 127 seconds in a game against Chelsea. This latest effort brings Leo's tally for Argentina to 104 goals in 176 games.

This Thursday will see Argentina in action for the third time since they were crowned World Cup winners in Qatar. The Albiceleste will come up against Australia, opponents they faced in Qatar, with the South Americans running out 2-1 winners thanks Leo's 35- minute strike.
The friendly will be held in Beijing (at 09:00 Argentina time) and the winning team will be presented with a unique trophy in which a rotating upper part represents planet Earth and when the winning team raise it aloft, it will automatically rotate.
Argentina and Australia have met eight times, with the Argentineans' record reading six wins, one draw and one defeat.
