Leo Messi collected the award for the top goalscorer in LaLiga for the eighth time in his career at a ceremony held in Paris. The Argentine, who landed the trophy after plundering 30 goals in the 2020/21 campaign, took to social media to give thanks: "It's an honour to be part of the LaLiga history books. If you'd have told me I'd win the Pichichi Trophy one day I'd have thought you were crazy and even more so to surpass Zarra and I could never have dreamt of winning it eight times... Thanks to everyone who helped me to achieve these awards and to Marca for coming to Paris this year to present me with the trophy."

Seven-time Ballon d'Or winner Leo Messi paraded the award he collected on Monday in front of the Parc des Princes faithful in the build-up to the Ligue 1 encounter between PSG and Nice. Messi was joined on the pitch by Gianluigi Donnarumma, who showed off his Yashin Trophy.

On the back of securing his seventh Ballon d’Or, Leo Messi is set for PSG’s next league outing, which sees the Parisians face fellow high-flyers Nice, who head into Matchday 16 of the campaign in third spot, on Wednesday 1 December at the Parc des Princes.

PSG and Argentina attacker Leo Messi took to his Instagram account after landing his seventh Ballon d'Or to share the following message: "Whilst I always put the team first, I can’t hide my delight at having won another Ballon d’Or. I want to thank and dedicate this to all of my teammates and staff from the national team after the great year we had, as well as to all of those I had at Barcelona and those at @psg. Of course, I also dedicate it to my family and friends, to all those who support me and are by my side and look after me so that I can perform to my best day in, day out. Without them, none of this would've been possible. And thanks also to @francefootball for organising the ceremony and for the award. A massive hug!"

Leo Messi today claimed his seventh Ballón d'Or at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. The accolade, awarded by France Football, recognises him as the best player in the world in 2021. On this occasion, he saw off competition from Robert Lewandowski and Jorginho, who joined him on the podium. This latest triumph sees the Argentine ace add to his honours and become the most decorated player in the history of the award.

The Parisians picked up another three points after running out 3-1 winners in their Matchday 15 trip to Saint-Étienne in an encounter in which Leo Messi claimed a hat-trick of assists. This latest triumph takes PSG's points tally to 40 points at the summit of Ligue 1. Leo started the game and completed the full 90 minutes.
