Argentina captain, Leo Messi, took to Instagram after the Albiceleste booked their ticket to the 2022 Qatar World Cup to share the following message: "Our qualification for the World Cup is, without doubt, the icing on the cake in a very special year for our national team. Thanks again for all of the support you always give us. I still also have great desire to continue fighting for the objectives we set ourselves here at PSG and am keen to remain focused and work hard to achieve them. I want to end this year in the best possible way and enjoy more good times in France."

The Albiceleste secured their spot at the Qatar 2022 World Cup following the goalless stalemate against Brazil, which saw the team pick up the point that it required to qualify. Captain Leo Messi completed the full 90 minutes of the game, which was Argentina’s last outing of the calendar year.

Leo Messi is set to lead Argentina in the national team’s final outing of the calendar year against Brazil in San Juan, a contest that will close out the latest 2022 World Cup qualifying double-header. The Albiceleste head into the encounter on the back of a 1-0 away success against Uruguay.

Argentina take on Uruguay in the Río de la Plata Clásico in the 13th round of the 2022 Qatar World Cup qualifying campaign.

The sides will face off at the Estadio Campeón del Siglo. Argentina, who ran out 3-0 winners in the reverse fixture, head into the contest in second place in the group with 25 points to their name.
