Leo Messi celebrated his 35th birthday on Friday in Ibiza alongside family and friends and took to his social media platforms to thank all of his followers with the following message: “Thank you very much for all of your messages and birthday wishes. Sending you a big hug!”

Today, 16 June, represents a special date in Leo Messi's career. On this day in 2006, Leo enjoyed his first taste of World Cup action.

Leo entered the fray in the 75th minute in the meeting with Serbia in the German city of Gelsenkirchen and managed to get his name on the scoresheet and provide an assist to round off a 6-0 win for the Argentines.

Leo completed the full 90 minutes and scored all five of the Albiceleste’s goals. It is the second time in his career that the Argentina captain has notched five goals in a single game after having previously achieved the feat for FC Barcelona in the Champions League meeting with Bayer Leverkusen in March 2012.

The Albiceleste ran out 3-0 winners over the Azzurri at Wembley.

Leo captained Argentina and set them on their way to victory by providing the assist for the opening goal in the 28th minute.

This triumph sees Leo and Argentina add another title to their haul on the back of last year's Copa América success.
